How to heic to jpg
- Choose your HEIC files, or drop them on the page. iPhone photos use HEIC by default since iOS 11.
- Pick a quality if you care about file size. The default of 90 keeps photos looking untouched.
- Press Convert. The decoding runs on your device, in this tab.
- Download each JPG, or grab them all as a ZIP.
About HEIC and JPG
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format iPhones and newer Android phones save photos in. It stores the same picture in roughly half the space of an old-style JPG, and it can hold bursts, edits and depth maps alongside the image. That efficiency is why Apple switched to it, and it is why the files confuse everything that is not a recent phone or Mac.
JPG is the format everything else speaks. Windows photo viewers, old Android apps, web forms, government portals, printers and most desktop software open JPG without a thought. Converting HEIC to JPG trades some compression efficiency for universal compatibility, which is exactly what you want when the destination is a website, an email or someone else's computer.
This converter decodes the HEIC container, applies the rotation saved inside it, and re-encodes the picture as a JPG at the quality you picked. A 3 MB HEIC photo typically becomes a 2 to 4 MB JPG at quality 90. The pixels come from the full-quality decode, not a preview: Apple stores a small preview thumbnail alongside the real image data, and cheap converters grab the wrong one.
About the options
Quality controls the JPG encoder. At 90, artefacts are invisible on a phone screen and hard to find on a monitor. At 75, files shrink by another 20 to 30 percent with slight softening visible only at 100% zoom. Below 50, blockiness starts to show in skies and skin. If the destination is print, stay at 90 or above.
Remove metadata is on by default. HEIC photos carry EXIF data: camera settings, timestamps, and often GPS coordinates. Stripping it makes the file smaller and keeps your location out of whatever you share next. If you need the metadata preserved (archival, photo workflow tools), switch the toggle off and the EXIF travels with the JPG.
Limits and honest notes
The decoder is a WebAssembly build of libheif that loads on first use, about 2 MB, and is cached by the browser afterwards. The first conversion of a session takes a few seconds longer than the rest.
Files up to 25 MB each work, which covers every phone photo we have seen. A 50-photo burst converts fine; a 4-minute 4K video clip saved as HEVC will not fit, and the dropzone tells you so.
Live Photos convert as their still image only. Bursts, depth maps and editing instructions inside the container are dropped, because JPG has nowhere to put them. If a photo looks wrong after conversion (rare, but it happens with third-party camera apps), the original HEIC in your library is untouched.
Frequently asked questions
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, on your device. You can verify it: open the browser Network tab, convert a photo, and watch. No request leaves your machine with your file in it.
Why will Windows not open my HEIC files directly?
Windows 10 and 11 open HEIC only after you install the paid "HEIF Image Extensions" from the Microsoft Store. Converting to JPG once is usually easier than paying for a codec on every machine you use.
Will converting to JPG reduce my photo quality?
At the default quality of 90, the difference is invisible in normal use. JPG is lossy, so the conversion is not bit-identical, but the saved pixels come from the full-resolution decode of your HEIC, not a thumbnail.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The whole tool runs in the mobile browser. On an iPhone you can pick HEIC files straight from the Files app; on Android, from your gallery.
Can I convert Live Photos?
You get the still photo, which is what almost everyone wants. The video part of a Live Photo is not carried into JPG.
Is there a batch limit?
Up to 50 files per run and 25 MB per file. There is no daily cap and no watermark.
Private by design
Stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded. The conversion runs in your browser: open the Network tab while you convert and you will see that nothing is sent. No account, no watermark, no daily limit.
