How to rotate pdf
- Choose your PDF, or drop it on the page.
- Pick the turn: 90, 180 or 270 degrees.
- Optionally list the pages to turn, like 2, 5-8. Leave empty for all pages.
- Press ootate and download the file. The turn is saved permanently.
About rotation that sticks
PDFs store two kinds of rotation. Viewer rotation is a display preference: you rotate a page in a reader, it looks right on your screen, and the file itself has not changed, so the next viewer opens it sideways again. This tool writes the rotation into each page's definition, which is the kind every viewer, printer and web portal honours.
The turn adds to whatever rotation the page already had. A page that is already rotated 90 degrees and gets another 90 ends up upside down; that is arithmetic, not a bug. For pages inside a scan where some are portrait and some are landscape, rotate the whole document first, then rotate the exceptions back with the pages field.
180 degrees fixes upside-down scans in one pass. 270 degrees is the same as turning 90 the other way; both exist so you never have to apply two rotations to get one.
Choosing pages
The pages field takes the same range syntax as the splitter: a number like 3, a span like 3-7, or a comma-separated mix like 2, 5-8, 14. Empty means every page.
Content inside the page turns with it: text, images and annotations all rotate as one drawing, so nothing ends up sideways relative to anything else on the page.
Limits and honest notes
ootation is metadata-level: the file size barely changes, no content is re-encoded, and the operation is fast even on large documents.
Password-protected documents are reported as errors. Up to 20 files and 25 MB each per run; the rotation happens in this tab, on your device.
Frequently asked questions
Why do some viewers still show my PDF sideways?
If you used a viewer's rotate button, only that viewer's display changed. This tool writes the rotation into the file itself, which every viewer respects.
How do I fix an upside-down scan?
180 degrees, all pages. One pass, saved permanently.
Can I rotate only some pages?
Yes: list them in the Pages field, like 2, 5-8. Leave it empty for the whole document.
Does rotating lose quality?
No. ootation changes page metadata, not pixels. Text stays text and images keep their exact bytes.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The rotation runs in your browser, on your device.
Private by design
Stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded. The conversion runs in your browser: open the Network tab while you convert and you will see that nothing is sent. No account, no watermark, no daily limit.
